I recently purchased a Superchip and I am very pleased with the power it offers. however, I was warned that I need to get a EGT gauge put in asap so I dont go over 1200 degrees for exhaust temp. This is not something specifically recommended by Superchips (even though I have seen it offered on their web site).
Has anyone installed a superchip and NOT installed the EGT gauge and been OK? My current setting is "Tow Safe" until I get the gauge installed. Im just a bit worried about the tech guy trying to sell me stuff I really dont need.
Whenever you add a performance chip to your truck, you are increasing the fuel flow. Increased fuel flow means increased combustion and pressures, and turbo boost. All of these create heat, and exhaust temps increase. If your exhaust temperature increases too much, depending on where you have your exhaust probe (how far away from the turbo it is located in the pipe), that temperatures of 1100 to 1300 degrees, if kept at that temperature too long while going up a hill or accelerating, can damage your turbo.
Therefore, it is a strong recommendation to get an EGT gauge, and while you are at it get a Turbo boost gauge too.
I got a Turbo gauge, I will get the EGT too. My exhaust probe is in the same position as it came from the factory.. can or should I relocate it?
Your exhaust temp probe from the factory??? I don't think you're talking about the right thing here. I've never heard of them coming with a pyrometer probe from the factory.
At least removing the muffler will bring your egts down, did on average 200-300 degrees for me. If you floor it for longer than say 8 seconds @ 3000-3200 rpm ur running at or over 1200 degrees. Thats if your truck is running well, if has quirks it might be higher or get there faster. Mine does with superchip It gets there even quicker if you disable the wastegate. I wouldnt run it at those temps for any length of time and especially not with a load behind you.

Sorry.. I was a bit confused. I have no probe as of yet.. need to get one installed.
