76 360 exaust manifolds

76 360 exaust manifolds
I just bought a 76 F-150 4x4 with a 360 in it.I have a 72 with a 360 in it. The exaust manifolds on the 76 don't look at all like the 72 manifolds. The 72 manifolds exit at the rear of the manifold and the 76 exit in the center and have raised ribs that give it an aluminum look,the 72s are smooth. When did they change to the newer style or are the manifolds in the 76 aftermarket.The reason I ask is the 76 manifolds look like they woulg allow the engine to breathe better and I would like to know if they can be ran on the 72 motor? Thanks for any ideas.

I thought the center outlet style was used on FT engines and the 'log' or rear exit style was used on the FE engines. Both are the same family of engines but just a bit different.
I wouldn't bother switching them as both of them are pretty poor design. Headers are one of the best upgrades for the FE engines, but IF you don't want headers, I'd say they are swapable.
