Well I finally found time to get back to "Someday" Since it wasn't raining and the lawnmower is down with a broken belt, I had a little time on my hands.
I patched 48 holes that had been drilled or punched in the firewall by POs, sandblasted it and painted. Also put a coat of rubberized undercoating on for extra measure. While I was in the area, I installed the steering shaft I bought from Mid-Fifty while at the Supernats. Seems funny to turn the steering wheel and have the tires turn
HMMMM, with progress like this, I might be getting somewhere.
Jeff--looks like you are going to be haulin' butt in the effie soon!!! You have to let that lawnmower sit for awhile---it's too hot to mow--but not to sandblast and weld--LOL
I like the progress and all those holes you filled---wow!!!! BILL
Thanks for the encouragement folks, now to decide if I want to stay home this weekend or ride to Branson for the Ozark Run. Work on my truck or look at other trucks?????? Hmmmmm...... tough question.
600 mile round trip plus a motel room, might need to stay home.
I know... You will be missed in Branson. I am working on my truck every night. The radiator is draining at the moment. I will take pics for you though.
You have to let that lawnmower sit for awhile---BILL
The way it has been raining around here, if I let the mower sut much longer, I'll need a metal detector to find it. Got lucky on some of the more open spots, a customer brought me a tractor and bushhog to work on
Great. I'm looking forward to "seeing" that. I'd really like to hear it. I've heard Mercedes diesels b4, of course, it's just that the sound would conflict with what my eyes are seeing, an old ford pickup making that sound.
Jeff---I am contemplating a turbo-diesel cummings transplant from a 93 dodge donor truck. My buddy has a spare and is insisting I do the swap like the 1 we saw at Knoxville. I have the frame prepped and keep my fingers crossed that he can do the swap and keep the price down. That grass can wait--run the brush-hop over it and you need to test it anyway-before you give it to the owner---and cruise down to the show!!! It will give you inspiration and you are gaining on your truck... Diesel power is coming.........Bill
Looks very nice, what did you use to patch the holes?
The smaller holes were filled with a mig welder using a copper spoon for backup, some of the larger ones were filled using knock-out plugs from an old electrical box. Where the PO had used a torch to cut holes for a brake booster and the steering column, I had to get a little more inventive, I used some pieces from the firewall of the BroncoII that is the donor for several parts.
If I would have been looking for a smoother "show" look, I would have used some body filler on the rougher spots before spraying the paint and undercoating.
