A few years ago, I had a strange problem, and you guys on here told me just what it was, ( cam position sensor) and I had it fixed immediatly. I don't know about this one, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I have 1999 7.3 L. Power Stroke Diesel, about a week ago, first I noticed strange things going on, like my ADS light came on, then the Overdrive was flashing Off. Then my speedometer went crazy, one day I was slowing down to stop when I got to about 30-35 mph it would just drop to 0. I've been working long hours, and had not had time to check into this. Then today, it seems that it has just decided die if I go over 40 mph. It will start back up, but will die again if I get to 40 mph. I've checked and noticed to that my trailer lights don't work either. Does anyone have any ideas where to start?
I'm with Kennedyford on this one. An ABS sensor, while it fixed the other stuff, has nothing to do with the engine stalling out.
The same thing was happening with my speedo and i changed the VSS, but it's still doing the same thing, once it hits 30, it drops to 0. What could be the problem.

Well I took the truck out today, and apparently all is not fixed yet. Everything is working properly as for the other problems, but now it just dies for no reason. Does not matter what speed now. I may go 10 miles or may go 2 miles, then it just dies. I can start it up ok most of the time, and it may run for a while, and it may not. Other times I have to wait a little bit. Now, I thought I would move on to the next advice, changing the VSS. Where it this located? My ABS was located on top of the pumpkin, I can't find any VSS there? Also is there any chance that the CPS is going out again? I have only replaced it once a few years back.
Not according to Napa.Go in there and ask for a vss and they will hand you something that goes on your tranny. Its got a mechanical con.(spedo cable maybe not sure) and an electrical connector (3 prong if i remember).

Thats what I was told. Napa has schematics, and shows that there is two sensors on the pumpkn. The only problem is my truck has just the ABS one. Thats why I ask where is the VSS located.
I didnt get into the v.s.s. I just told the clerk that was not what I was looking for.As far as where it goes I think I remember someone on here saying it goes aon the trans somewhere.I dont even know what it is supposed to control but I do know nappa has one for my truck.

Have you checked the wiring that runs to the VSS?....
Well it seems I've come full circle. As I said in the first post that I had changed the CPS a few years ago as the board suggested would fix my problem. And today I had to change it again, and fixed the last of the strange set of problems that had been occuring over the last week. Thanks to everyone for their help.
Thanks for the help, I'll start there, and let you know.
DEF VSS, get the NAPA version or even the FOMOCO
I have always had good luck with my auto body guy, I can get you a quote if need be.
any help, feel free to IM me

the VSS and ABS sensor ARE the same, the sensor on the trans. is called an OSS and is used for trans. functions... I am a ford tech, ive changed many of these.
