Need Help Fast!!

ok i have an 8.8 rear end in my truck on my 94 ford. When trying to take teh carrier bolt out to get the pin it, it snapped in the carrier. I cant get a drill in there to take it out without hurting the carrier. What can I do? Any way of getting the rear end gears out? Am I going to have to get a new carrier?

If all of the threads came out with it you can try a magnet down the hole or stick a welding rod down the hole and arc it to the bolt and pull it out.

I had a GM in the other day with the same problem and I had to cut it out with a die grinder with a cutting wheel on it to get the large pin out so I could get the axles out. And yes I had to replace the center carrier.

You have to get the Pinion Shaft out to get the U-Washers off to get the axles out to remove the carrier.

When the bolt breaks most of the time the Pinion Shaft has turned a little locking the bolt in place.

You can post over in the rear end forum as this problem has been posted before and I think one guy got it out.
You can also do a search there.

What are you refering to when you say carrier and pin? What carrier, what pin?

Do you mean rear axle differential case, where the ring gear bolts on?

I took it he meant the lock bolt for the Pinion Shaft.
But I guess you already knew the way I took it.

That's what I thought, thx. There are two different pinion shafts, it depends on the axle code. But there's only one lock pin.

D8BZ-4241-B .. Lock Pin, Differential Pinion Shaft.

Why does Ford call it a pin, when it's a threaded bolt? Dunno.

It has a Head and threads to retain it, but then about 2 inches of smooth pin (3/16) that goes through the pinion pin (3/4),......to retain the pinion pin.

Probably should be called "Threaded self retaining pinion pin retaining pin"
