Surprised about the fuel mileage
My truck turned over 1k today. I filled up this morning and headed out with the family to a spring in central florida. Last trip doing the same speed around 65 mph, I was getting around 17-18 mpg according to the truck's meter. Today was getting around 19.8 mpg doing the same speed.
If this averages out city and hwy, I will be getting overall gas mileage better than my '06 6.0
I did not buy the truck for mileage but rather safety and to tow my 12k boat and trailer. Family loves the truck. It is quiet, smooth, I did the KR and they love they love the options and color. I also installed and overhead DVD player for the kids in the back as well.

Good to hear about your mileage chi6488. What gear, and is your KR a 4x4?
My 08 lives up to all the marketing hype, quiet, lots of power, no problems, drives good, but I am concerned about mileage. No, I did not buy this thing for mileage but my O3 PSD with the same gears was getting 15/16. The first tank in the 08 (figured manually) 10.2 , second tank 12, third tank 10.3. The truck has 1500 highway miles on it and the Lie-O-meter has ranged from 6.8 to 11.
If the mileage is 10/12 average on an F350 DWR 4x4 6.4 CC so be it. What concerns me is that seeing the 15/16 mileage reports from other 6.4 owners may indicate there is a problem with my engine setup. I have been watching the other "mileage threads" and can clearly see variances due to driving habbits, gearing, etc. I would like to know if any programing or mechanical adjustments can be done to improve mileage with out getting the warranty voided.

I have a 3.73 4wd. My first tank was a shock as well. I know one thing, the truck does not like to IDLE. That is where I lose most mpg's. I am monitoring mine. Today it was at 19.5, I idled for 20 minutes waiting on wife at a store when I drove out it was at 17.2. The trip back home about 50 miles at 60-65 got it back up to 18+

Boost is high and runs up quickly on mine as well. This might be worth checking into. As I mentioned there is only 1500 miles on the engine, and the mileage seems to get better on the "lie-o-meter" as more miles are accumulated. I also agree with "powerstroked162" I probably won't mess with anything until there is 10,000 or so on it.

I have a 2008 F-250 6.4 PSD SRW 3.73 gears w5sp auto trans. Truck is bone stock with 1800mi. I made a 200mi trip last week unloaded and no trailer and the computer was showing 16.5 over the road. I made the identical trip today and couldn't get over 15.0mpg. The outside temp. was about 95 degrees. When I drove through an area where it had just rained the outside temp dropped to about 86 degrees and the milage went up to 16.5. Go figure

WARRING newbe alert, my first post!!!!!
I’m ready to purchase a new pickup before the first of the year. I want a diesel regular cab, 6 speed manual, 4x4, F350 SRW, 3.73 limited slip diff, XL or XLT, plus some other undecided options. This will replace my 95 diesel XLT F350 set up about the same way (I’m the original owner).
Ford is my only choice since it the only 4x4 truck still manufactured with a solid front axle, manual hubs, and a manual transfer case.
But the fuel mileages I’ve read about the 08s 6.4L concerns me, I would be happy with 17-19 highway mpg with this type of truck.
