My truck is a regular cab xl 4x4 with limited slip dif, 200 amp alternator, single cd player, camel cloth seat 6 speed manual tranny. It's basically el cheapo, but it's also the lightest; it feels like a sports car in a truck.

My continuing mpg record: 436.0km/80.2L= 5.44km/L x 3.785L/USgal = 20.58km/USgal x 1mlie/1.609km = 12.8mpg. All city driving. With about 2,300 miles on the odometer.

A friend of mine has a new 08 CC SB 4WD Lariat. He has about 1500 miles on it and is getting about the same as you so far. His city driving does involve freeways which are at highway speeds though. He is very happy with it so far and had traded in his 06 when he bought it.

On-going mpg saga: 506.4km/89.97L = 5.63km/L x 3.785L/USgal = 21.3km/L x 1mile/1.609km = 13.2 mpg mostly city driving with about 2,500 miles on my truck.Super08 What do you do in Alberta to winterize your truck? I mean how often do you check for water in fuel and what type of fuel additives do you use and what type of oil do you use? I'm moving from the lower mainland to central BC this fall and I don't want to ruin my truck.

Got 8mpg first tank off the lot, gradually improved to 10mpg unloaded, 8mpg pulling a 10K 5th wheel. Got over 16000 miles now, and my mileage ain't gettin' any better.

Will be pulling to the World Chuckwagon Races this weekend, in Clinton Ar. Not much level ground between here and there. We'll see what the mileage does this trip.

Last winter I ran Ford's Motorcraft 0w30 CI-4. You cannot run that oil with your truck though as it needs CJ-4 oil. As for water I drain the frame mounted oil fiter with each oil change. This year I am going to try and run 5w40 all winter as this is what I run in the summer and I want to see if I can run it year around. As for additives I run Fords cetane boost in the summer and the winter formula in Jan , Feb, and March. I'm in Northern Alberta so it gets down to below -40 once in a while, but I do keep it inside a garage when it is parked.

Terrible Mileage??

I have a 08 6.4L Twin Turbo Power Stroke Diesel, ( 4X4 Completely stock ) with 9500 miles on it and I am getting 9.0 miles per gal in city and about 12 miles per gallon on the highway?? Seems to be getting worse, instead of better with each tank, but dealer says it's fine.......Anyone having similar troubles?

On-going milage...this is intown driving 416.1km/74.92L = 5.55 km/L x 3.785 L/USgal = 21.02 km/USgal x 1mile/1.609km = 13.1 mpg. About 3k miles on the truck.

I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for a hunting trip that will include some off road drivng and I'll post that milage when I return in about 10 days.

It's not clear to me why people claim engine break in will change your mpg.

I've had 3 diesel's from Ford---mpg never changed from day 1.
Synthetic oil didn't help.
Tire pressure increase didn't help.
MPG never changes, they get what they get, and if you want to have fun challenge the "18-20" mpg guys to a real test.

I had a friend with an 02 7.3 that he claimed he was getting 18 mpg even though it was lifted with 35" tires. I said I woul buy his fuel for a week if he would let me check his mpg accurately and compare with the 05 I had at that time.

We did it and what do you know...he was getting 12-13 mpg around town just like I was.

Agree, before I bought my Diesel, alot of people told me 18mpg mty 12 towing 14K. Talk is cheap. The pencil shows the truth. A lot of people remember what the computer showed for highest milage for a short distance. Sure my 450 has shown 16mpg for the 1st quarter tank sometimes. then evens out to about 12 after that. That's what is great about FTE the truth comes out so we now know what can really be expected if you take the average. It does appear that the manuals are getting better milage as a rule. Ford designed this truck to tow heavy and to stand up. I sure know I enjoyed towing this summer and can't wait till next year.

There is a difference between twin turbos and sequential turbos. The new 6.4 diesel is a sequential dual turbo set up, one small one for fast spooling for low end torque, a bigger turbo for the high end of the powerband. Big horsepower was not a goal of the new engine, big torque quick in the power band was.

In addition, the larger displacement of the 6.4 vs the 6.0 was also a key to lower NOx emissions (but still maintain Hp & Torque numbers), which is achieved by lowering the compression ratio, also the reason the new 6.4 is running more boost than the 6.0. The electronic fuel injectors were chosen over the mechanical ones, because the electronic injectors respond faster than the mechanical injectors and this was needed in order to have multiple spray events during the compression stroke to reduce emissions and noise.

There is alot more invloved than a simple addition of a turbo for the 6.4 to met new emmisions.

Oil, tire pressure and break in all make a difference.
It's just no matter how hard I try, I can't measure it.
So, I use Rotella T synthetic, keep my tires at 80psi and have 35K miles...
Guess what?
It still gets EXACTLY the same mpg as the day I drove it off the lot.

I towed a 7500 pound travel trailer (12 foot tall brick) in big headwinds in the mountains here in NM....I got an astounding 5.7mpg.

It runs perfectly, has the latest software from Ford and all the sensors are in spec.
It ran great, never smoked black smoke once and got 5.7 mpg.
It tows like an animal and has never given a moment of trouble.
My point is that the mpg hypers are just that...hypers.
Buy a Ford diesel for long term towing fun and never calculate your mpg and you'll be happy 4-ever....
