I'm looking for something similar to this, but have never heard of this brand before. I want 3 sets of pre-amp outputs and a front USB plug for MP3s. The hookup for a backup camera is a bonus. The MP3 is really the only reason I'm upgrading from the factory head unit.
I already have two MTX thunder amps from the Dodge truck I sold, one mono and one four channel, and a Kicker Solobaric L5 sub in a box. I'm planning on upgrading to Infinity reference speakers in the door panels and reusing my amps and sub. They were originally hooked up to a JVC head unit, but that went with the Dodge.
The problem with a lot of the headunits is they don't look good in the factory opening and the pictures I've seen of double Dins have gaps at the sides.
I have no idea how DuPont got into making head units, but $200 for a head unit is cheap
I would lookk at crutchfield or Best Buy,etc.
The feaures you want on a medium to high end head unit, frm Alpine or Pioneer would probably cost at least $1000
shop around and compare features and price.
try EBAY as well
I went and looked at it today, but they salesman was clueless. I was hoping to find out who actually makes it. I did see some similar Power Acoutik head units for about $299 so I'm going to see what they run online. I'm comfortable installing this stuff myself and am not willing to pay over $200 in installation fees from Fry's for 4 speakers, 2 amps, and a headunit.
I have installed head units in many different vehicles, it is not too hard. Remember to buy the wire harness for your truck, and solder the head unit's wires harness to that on a workbench and then just plug it into the factory wires in the dash. Running the power wires for the amp is not hard, just remember to run power from the driver's side, through firewall and along the edge of the door sill and run the audio interconnects through the middle console under the floor. If you are running two amps, run a 4 gauge power wire and get a distribution blok and split the two power leads for the amps into 8 gauge.
you can split the AMP turn on signal wire to both amps, shouldn't be any problems.
I have an Alpine 9855 HU and I have Alpine 5x7 Seperate components in my front doors and 5x7 Alpine coaxials in my supercab doors. I am running an Alpine mono amp to my JL Audio 10 SW3 in their wedge enclosure and a stereo amp is driving the front speakers. I am very happy with the sum and am probably just going to buy a new AV head unit with GPS!!
Yeah, it's not tough. I've installed my own system in a Corvette, a Camaro, a Scout II, and a Dodge W100. I already have the wiring and a 4 way distribution block from Monster Cable. I pretty much just stripped the wiring and amps out of my Dodge before selling it, just leaving the head unit and speakers.
I went with the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X491 CD Receiver, along with Infinity Reference 6810cs 5"x7'/6"x8" 2-way Component System for the front doors and Infinity Reference 6812cf 5"x7"/6"x8" 2-way Speakers for the back. I liked this Excelon because it has the USB port on the front and I can keep my CDs on thumb drives.
Along with the two MTX amps I already have and the L5 solobaric sub, I'm hoping this will make a nicely rounded system.
I've got the head unit, amplifiers, and rear door speakers installed so far. I'll put the component speakers in the front doors tomorrow, as well as hook up the sub.
It already sounds better with just the Infinity speakers in the back. Obviously there isn't much sound staging, yet, but there is already more base and a richer sound than the 4 factory speakers and stock HU.
I've got pictures of what I've done so far and will post them up once everything is finished.
