Question 06, 6.0 surge problems

Hello, everyone, I have a 06, 6.0 auto w/ airaid air filter, bullydog triple dog downloader (which is now removed from the truck).
Heres the problem.
while accelerating or even at constant speed there seems to be a surge or pulse to the engine you can feel it and here it in the whine of the turbo, if you watch the tach as it climbs up it will fall alittle then climb then fall so on and so on,in any gear, it's way more noticable going up hill, and even worse pulling a load 7-8000 lbs. while pulling the other day the waste gate poped 3 or 4 times and the hole truck jerked, I slowed down, maintained speed and it hasnt done it again.I thought if might be running lean so I changed the fuel filters, the primary was nasty, the secondary looked good.the problems is still there but it is a little better. oh I have 16,000 miles on it. The problem was worse with the downloader,so I removed it as to trouble shoot the problem. Its not the transmission, it smooth and firm.
Thanks for you thoughts, I go the the dealer next monday, I would like to know what Im talking about when I get there.

Welcome to FTE

You might try asking this question in the 6.0 forum. You'll probably get a quicker answer there.

FWIW: Don't think the 6.0 engine has a waste gate. My guess would be you have an EGR or a turbo vane problem, but I am not a PSD expert.

Correct, there is no wastegate on the 6.0. Could be EGR Valve.

Also, is there a recent oil change in the equation and type of oil are you using?

Maybe Art or Ryan will move this to the 6.0 Forum for him if they are on the boards this morning.

Is the Wix a Racor branded filter or a will fit copy? If it is a will fit copy that might be part of your problem. Only use Racor filters on the 6.0L. Motorcraft, Fram, and some others are repackaged Racor filters. Go down to the 6.0L forum and you will find many threads on this.

Same goes with the fuel filters, do not use will fit filters as they don't have the proper aquabloc material. You can usually get the fuel filters from your local International truck parts dealer cheaper than from Ford.

My Truck was doing almost the identical thing to me about 2 months ago. I took it into the dealership and they ended up replacing both my EGR valve and the Turbo. My truck only did it on long hills when pulling my 10K trailer. Hope this helps.
