Hopefully someone can help me out.
I am looking for a 38" tire for my F250. It came with E rated tires. I can find tires that have a max weight of around 3500 pounds but are only C rated. Can someone tell me what the difference is?
Thanks
C rated tires are rated for only 50 psi and have less plies than E rated tires. Don't worry much about rating as long as you have the load carrying capability.
My current tires are stock E rated tired. I am lifting and putting on bigger tires. I dont tow much, and i i will never tow anythign extremely heavy. Nothing bigger then a car trailer so maybe 6000 pounds.
If you are buying tires rated for 3500 pounds each (basically a D range anyways) that is more then enough for your truck. 3500 x 2 = 7000 for one axle and your truck probably weighs just about that. So, 3500x4 tires=14,000 pounds. That would handle your truck fully loaded and then some.
C rated tires are generally 3 ply and 50 psi (as previously mentioned).
I wouldn't worry about it, just inflate them towards the max when towing.
Thanks for all the info. I guess i will go with the 38x15.5x20 Baja Claw Radials. They are listed at about 3500lbs max weight and have a D load rating.
