Has anyone bought a horn wire #47-3750 from LMC. I was wondering what it comes with or what it looks like. Their customer service is poor and cant tell me. I would imagine its more then just a wire since they are charging $16 for it.
It should also be constructed with a higher count of smaller gauge strand to make it more flexible to withstand the constatnt twisting motion. It probably has a thicker insulation for abrasion resistance also. Just guessin' though!
Good Luck!
There is only one thing special about the proper wire; the crimped on contact. I haven't bought one from LMC, but have from this gent:
Antique Auto Supply, Arlington Texas. 1-817-275-2381
P/N FAB 14308-A wire assy.
I would look carefully at the manual's exploded view of the assembly, it is not obvious how it all goes together.
The key thing if you are starting from scratch (no parts existing) is that there is an insulating button that fits into the top of the steering shaft. It baffles me but vendors are selling the wires with a bullet connector already crimped on one end, and the contact crimped on the other, but without the button. Neither contact nor connector will fit thru the button, so how are you supposed to install the wire -- cut it in half?!
All pieces of the complete horn assembly are available except the insulating button. I was fortunate to find a new wire with the button already on it, and both connectors. I think Antique Auto Supply now sells them, but I would confirm it.
