my truck has a DTC for "EGR flow Insufficent"
i've tracked this problem down to being the egr port in the intake manifold being clogged. I'm not sure if this could be causing my idle problem
the idle problem:
when i drive and i either push the clutch in or put the truck in neutral the rpm's rise up to 2000 revs. the rpm's will stay at 2k until the truck comes to a complete stop, then the revs will drop to about 1100 rpm, which is still a little high for me. if i leave the truck in gear a let go of the gas it doesn't happen
i have no idea where to start with this.
this idle condition is screwing with my mileage
First thing run alot of fuel system cleaner in it. Being Seafoam or Chevron or B12-chemtool or whatever. You can run seafoam through the vacuum lines if you want also or you can run Seafoam through both system vacuum & fuel. If you choose the vacuum route un hook just 1 vacuum (preferrebly closest going to intake manifold) line and hold the hose with a needle nose pliers to regulate it by squeezing. There will be white smoke when you are doing this so do not be alarmed if ya havent done this procedure b4. As you regulate the suction push the throttle back makin the rpms rise. If this doesnt work maybe its time for a new EGR. Or get the system cleaned with a machine at a reputable shop.
i'm pretty sure a clogged egr port is causing the code because a few months back i got a DTC "EGR Flow Excessive" and i found that the egr valve would get stuck occasionally allowing flow when it shouldn't. so when i changed the valve i accidentally twisted a broke the EGR Pipe.
so, in short both the egr valve and egr pipe are new and now the DTC popping up is "Insufficent Flow". After reading that "DTC description" (thanks flinstone, that page will come in handy somewhere down the road) i think i'll start looking for a vac. leak. maybe i'l kill 2 birds with 1 hose.
385hemi: i know i have some seafoam in the rats nest i'll call the garage. i'll definately try it
thanks again, i might try it at work tomorrow. i hope the smoke it spits out will **** someone off.
i own a 04 ranger 5 speed and i took it to ford and they replaced the IAC iddle air control. so i hope that helps you out, it caused by a dirty air filter or just a faulty one
