73-79 Radio

I am wanting to put a new cd player my 77 when I am done with it, I was wondering has anyone installed a new cd player and had it look like it was an original installation, I do not want to cut up the metal bracket and the bezel without knowing it can be done and still look really good
thanks

It doesn't look really good, but you can get aftermarket trim kits that put a nice square look to the outside of it. I built one out of an old thick notebook cover (the kind with the plastic over cardboard. I just painted it and glued it.

Just FYI, there are several threads in the audio forum relating to this topic that were moved there for obvious reasons.
Most of those threads have photos in them.

Would installing the CD in the glove box make sense? I believe in leaving everything as stock as possible.

The glove boxes are cardboard and not very sturdy, but if you built a bracket (really just a piece of metal with an L bend in it will work) it might work.... also the glove box isn't very deep...

They (can't list specific vendors) still make am/fm cassette decks that fit in the stock location without cutting. These decks usually have a CD changer available to purchase with them. Some even have an iPod jack. :-)

I think it's the best option.

LMC truck sells a stock looking AM/FM stereo cassette that fits in the stock location and has an optional 6 disc CD changer... It'll set you back about $350 though... I went to the junkyard and got an already modified bracket and an extra trim piece to practice on. I still have the stock unmodified one in my garage.
