hey guy's, got my power windows installed [from mid fifty] the kind that have the built on regulater. they went in real easy but I have a small problem. How did you guys run the wires thru the door. I figured I could drill a 5/8's hole in the door pillar [sp] but what did you use to get past the hinge baffles inside the doors. Im trying to do this without taking the doors off but that might be just wishful thinking. pops
I have used a screen door spring as a conduit for door power, it is flexible enough to let the door open and close and it can be attached with the ''o'' shaped bend at the ends. It is also pretty cheap, good luck
I have tack welded some 3/8 or 1/4 tubing to the bottom inside of the lower hinge (bent to follow the contour of the hinge) and ran the wires through it. You may have to file the hinge opening for tube clearance and I usually flare it out a little on each end and make sure it is smooth. I then paint it the hinge color.
I mounted my switches on the kick panel and just ran the two wires to the motor. Used shrink tubing and a fabricated clip to hold to hinge arms. Now some have critized my switch location but it has worked just fine for me. If you are interested I will post some pics. Joe
thanks guy's, I was thinking I could run it thru the hinge hole somehow. My switcher are already mounted in the the door panel so relocating isn't an option. The clip and tube sound easy I will take a look to see how they will work. pops
I ran two of the braided hose type conduits on mine for the windows locks and speakers. To get past the inner reinforcements I had to holesaw holes in the inside doorpanel and use a right angle drill and step bit to drill thru the reinforcement. Since I'll be uphostering the doors anyway, I didn't mind drilling the holes. I didn't discover the reinforcements until after I installed the conduits otherwise I would have installed them low enough to go thru the inspection panels to drill thru the reinforcement. I think there are pix in my making changes gallery.
