Is it worth $185 or so to replace the stock pulleys on a 4.6 V8 F150 with something like the ASP underdrive pulley set? Is there a downside to this replacement?

I asked the same question to a couple guys who had pics of their truck on the Hypertech site. The potential downsides are throwing your belt or squealling because the pulleys don't align right, some or all of your accesories that are driven off the belt don't work as good as before (Charging, A/C, Heater, Engine cooling)
Answers from those that had done it were pretty much the same:
- Good bang for the buck, you could feel a slight power gain
- Headlights dim a little at night at idle, but nearly same charge on voltmeter (14) as stock when driving (mine should get full charge at 1100rpm, not at idle like stock- you gotta wonder what might happen in Atlanta or LA traffic at stanstill however?), no dead batteries reported however
- Cooloing, heater, etc. works as mormal
I just ordered an ASP crank & water pump pulley for ~$60. It will take a different serpentine which will be another ~$30.
....we'll see!?!

unless youare running at high rpms look out for low water pump volume and lower alternator output and dead batteries. A friend of mine bought top of the line under drive pullies for his truck, ran his batteries dead and had a heating problem in the L.A. traffic due to the lower rpm the accessories operate at.
Pulled them off two weeks later and threw them away.
For lower RPM operated trucks, I think they do more harm than good.
He drove a late model Chevy w/350. I am not sure of the brand, but everything he did was the best of the best. He spent a ton of money on his truck, and it was pretty cool. That's the only thing he did that he tore out.
It's just something to keep in mind. It may work for you, just check things out first.
