Figured I would post here since I did in the Windor forum too.
Anyways, I was wondering if any one has or done or seen done a 302 long rod and what pistons I would need to buy. I have found three rods, the 5.40, 5.155, and 289 rods. Which would bed the best and I would want hypertectic pistons running 9.5 to 10. compression in a 58cc combustion chamber. All help post would be appreciated.
look in the tech article section all the way at the bottom. There are a few calulators you can download to check the conrod length and piston height. Also if you aren't planning on running nitros you should be fine with those pistons.
Go to kb-silvolite.com and look under the Keith Black automotive line. They have quite a selection. The 5.155 rod is a 289 rod. It was also used in the Boss 302 with 3/8" rod bolts.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Sep-02 AT 01:12 AM (EST)]I have a magazine article that describes a 302 build-up with Chevy 400 rods (5.565"). They dyno'ed the combo in the article.
I don't understand why a fella would even want long rods. I know that Smokey Yunick claimed power gains with long rods, but that was with some pretty old engine technology and running at high engine speeds.
