Tranny pan - deep pan recommendations?

Is anyone out there using an aftermarket deep tranny pan?

I am thinking about getting one while I have the engine on a stand and everything is easy to reach.

What about oil pans? Anyone know of aftermarket, higher-capacity pans?

I have a 92 Bronco with a 302. Mostly stock (Basani headers, K&N intake).

Thanks

no reason for a different pan under the 302, the tranny i would go with a hughes unit and install a temp gauge while your at it along with an aftermarket tranny cooler and remote filter setup. dont run the tranny fluid thru the radiator anymore

Thanks Kem, I already have the aftermarket cooler and radiator bypass.

I'm gonna check out getting the tranny pan and remote filter thru Summit.

Any recommendations on the gauge to install? I'd like to use a pillar mount pod. Gauges are not my strong suit. I know the stock gauges are not trustworthy. Could you recommend a setup (oil pressure, tranny temp, engine temp, etc.)?

I appreciate your advice.

Buddy

Trans Pans

I once put an B&M Aluminum deep pan on my 95 Bronco with a E40D trans.
The pan increasd the oil capacity by 3 quarts and was supposed to ad in cooling.
The finned pan looked cool.
One day running the sand washes in the desert a rock must have flown up and hit the pan. Knocking out a hole in the cast aluminum.
Left me stranded at night for a couple of hours while my freinds tried to find me.
I just orderd a steel pan from Summit Racing. Its made by Derale. It holds 3 extra quarts and has cooling tubes built in to the pan! and it only cost $81.00, compared to over $200.00 for the aluminum pam.
Good price and it wont break only dent!

Great point rudedogii.

Sometimes we are better off sacrificing looks for functionality. Or maybe the real beauty of anything lies in how well it performs it's task, not in how nice it looks at work. (Applies to mechanical objects - does not apply to women) .

I looked at the steel pans with tubes myself. I like the price and expect that the design will probably work as well as the aluminum models, maybe better.

The only concern I have is in keeping mud, dirt daubers, etc out of the tubes so that they continue to dissipate heat and not store it.

That said, I am going to save the money and buy steel. I can keep everything clean as part of normal maintenance anyway.

Thanks for the input.

sounds like your on the right track. make sure the tranny pan has a spot for the temp sensor. the pillar pod is a good idea, some like them others have said it obstructs there view. i have one just havent installed it yet.

trannytemp, oilpress, enginetemp should be the gauges to run at this time. use what ever the pocket book allows.
