Well, the sensor is the culprit 90% of the time. Unfortunately, you are in the 10% with a clogged EGR port in the intake.

That's odd, of the few hundred 401 codes I've fixed on Fords the DPFE sensor is rarely the problem. I might have replaced 5 or 10 of them and I don't think any of them were on a truck.

Update

Well, here;s the latest... took it all apart- found the carbon growth (sort of like little 'plants') and cleaned them out (a drill bit and a sandblaster works wonders)- put it all back together and it runs great...but the light is still on...based on what I've read- it just needs a bit of time to shut itself off- correct?
