Ball joint thread repair

Anyone recommend a solution to an 05 personal Fubar of the year?

Was installing DR's 2.5" leveling kit and on the final ball joint where you seat the Cam adj. the joint would spin after the nut got to the cotter pin hole.

Backing it off was almost as difficult until i hammered the cam in deeper as DR's tech suggested.

now i see the threads are hosed moreso on the nut, so i'll get 1 tomorrow and try that first.

I'm really hoping there is a DIE etc. that can be threaded to repair the threads and then try a brand new nut.

Any thoughts?

Unless there's not much left of the threads you might be able to clean them up with a thread file. Finding one of those will probably be a lot easier than trying to find a die.
For an example take a look at http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog

You can buy a thread file at Home Depot.

On the nut, just replace it. It's buggered up, you may or may not be able to repair it with a tap (that you don't own anyway) so why bother?

Regarding the joint spinning, place jack under the knuckle and jack up until the weight of that corner of the vehicle is supported by the knuckle, just like it would be if it had a tire on it. Don't jack it up too high, just enough so the axle comes off the safety stands. That way, if the jack gives it wont drop far. Now, take a hammer and give a couple loving taps to the side of the housing where the joints go in, also not to hard. Just do it hard enough to seat the joints. Take a socket or pipe and use that to beat the adjuster down into its seat. Everything should be snug in their tapers now and it should be a lot easier to tighten the nut once the threads are repaired, provided the dings are cleaned up enough. If there is extra resistance because of threads that are a little out of whack, even with the best of conditions you may not get that joint to tighten. A side benefit to doing it this way is that it seems torquing things under load may help a bit preventing what some people have described as "stiff" joints after installation.

I don't know about home depot, but I know for a fact that NAPA and O'reilly's sell thread files. They are lifesavers.
