I think that looks real good. What size pipe did you use for the recess. ........RUSTY

It isnt pipe. I took a sheet of stainless steel and cut it to roll into a 4" diameter can, welded the seam, and sealed off the back of it with a 4 inch round plate. I just need to drill the mounging holes for the lights in the back, and clean up the ouside of it. It is about 3.5" deep on the side closest to the box, and about 2.5-3 on the outside, following the roll of the fender. The lights are just over 6" long, so about half of them are recessed into the fender. If I could have found 4" steel pipe somewhere, that would have been a lot easier!

I thought about doing that to my 50f1 I like the lights and have the 4 inch pipe. But I wanted to put a roll around the outside off it so it wouldn't be so sharp going into the hole. Just not that far along yet but making a lot of notes as I go. .........RUSY

welding SS to mild steel is something I haven't tried. Go to your local muffler shop or commercial electrician for thinwall tubing up to 4" I used electrical conduit for the housings for my 4" LED backup lights I frenched into my lower pan (grind the thin galvanized coating off the outside before welding). I also used 1 1/2" conduit for frenching my antenna into the cowl. If you want a raised roll around the opening, leave the can long and weld a 1/8 - 1/4" rod around it and to the fender. Swipe a fillet of bondo to flair it in. I did not want mine to be raised around it so I wrapped a thin strip of 10 ga around the can to fit against the back of the panel before welding it in to give extra material around the edge.

Looks good but my personal preference is for a more outboard mounting location...gives a better view of the light from the side. 59 Caddie lights are meant to be seen, hiding the chrome trim in a recess takes away some of the impact of that particular tailight. IMHO...

It's not too difficult if you mig weld it with stainless wire and tri-mix gas. The welds actually come out pretty smooth.
