Hello all I'm new here and just noticed that there was an escape forum on this site...anyways I have a couple of questions. When I am driving down the road my power steering makes a slight noise if I turn to the right it makes the noise that power steering makes when low on fluid and if I turn to the right it stops. I was curious if this was just a problem with the power steering pump or what? I also was curious if there are problems with doors shutting and staying shut...permanently! My passengers rear door is stuck shut and a local shop (not ford dealership) couldn't figure it out. On other forums I was told to just torch the door off but the car isn't a ricer or old and I would prefer to not have to do something. I assumed that I could take the hinge bolts off to get at the locking mechanism that actually holds the door shut but I don't want to end up with no door and not being able to get it shut! I figured I'd leave well enough alone until I got some opinions on it! Thanks!
I had a door that wouldn't open, it was a 2006 Honda civic, so it can happen to any year of vehicle. The internal locking/unlocking mechanism is disconnected, for both of your problems I'd get the dealer to fix them, they can get them working with the least amount of fuss, and much better than torching the door off. good luck.
Well I actually took the door panel off from inside and even took off the driver side as well. All parts work and function the same exact way on either side and my guess is that the actual lock is sticking. The problem as I said is that without taking off the hinge bolts and than somehow getting the lock to come off of the locking post is where the problem is...don't want to get stuck with no door, I'd rather have it locked shut than not able to shut at all! I was just wondering if others had similar problems as many cars do!
As to the power steering noise, there is a TSB on the subject. Buy a quart of Mercon V (NOT Mercon) transmission fluid and a cheap turkey baster. Remove as much of the old fluid from the PS reservoir as possible and refill with the Mercon V. Repeat this over several days. The increased lubricating properties of the Mercon V should quiet it down.
