Is there an after market kit you can buy ? I have an 01 7.3 4x4 and had to replace the torque convertor and pump assy. This all started pulling my buddies 26ft. trailer up to elk camp. We pulled several steep grades i had locked out the o.d. and thought i was ok until the t/c puked out half the tranny fluid. Went to a ford dealer in the nearest town he said buy 10 to 12 quarts of fluid and it should work fine. Took it back to the same dealer and had the tranny serviced all is fine until the first part of June and i see i am losing fluid take it to the local ford garage and they said the t/c seals are gone and the pump showed excessive wear. So now when i tow steep grades you can rest assured i will pull it down into second gear. Any info on a tow mode indicator or tranny temp. indicator would be much appreciated. Thank's Phil
Wow, I would have though taken it out of OD would of taken care of you.. Not even sure if such a thing exist, but maybe a tc lock up mod might help...someone will come through for you on this, believe me, and welcome.

Overdrive doesn't come into play until at least 40 MPH. If you are slower than 40, it doesn't matter if OD is on or off, the trans won't go to overdrive because you are not going fast enough.
I don't know of any way of adding tow mode to your trans. There really isn't any need to, either. Just move the shifter to 2 or 1. That's the same thing the tow/haul does on the TorqShift. All it does is change the shift schedule. You can do the same thing with the shifter.
Another thing that will help A LOT is to do the steep grades in 4x4 low. That will greatly reduce the load on the transmission and torque converter.
Add a good Valve Body, do a TC lock up mod and add a full set of gauges, Pyro, Boost and tranny temp. You can have a tranny built as many do (myself included), but its going to cost you about $3800 to $5000... But once you have a good tranny in there kiss any issues with the tranny byby.
