I am considering modifying one wall of the "cold air" box on my truck, and putting on a NAPA filter. Does anyone think that this system really works in terms of keeping hot engine air out of the intake? I am thinking I could modify the "box" a little bit to accomodate the NAPA filter? Any thoughts?
If logic serves me well here, I am thinking that it is a load of B.S. Gassers have been running intakes right on top of the motor for 1000 years!! I can only think that it is a turbo issue on the Diesels, but how much difference would it make?
That's exactly what I did - modified my AFE CAI box to fit the NAPA 6637 filter. It's quite a bit bigger than the AFE filter. It might help somewhat keeping the intake air cooler because theoretically all the intake air comes through the grille. But I also think the box helps keep dust out of the filter too.
It is a bummer as the offset is just enough that the NAPA wont fit into the box, without the rear wall being removed. I guess it would still be somewhat benificial to have a two sided "shield" instead of a box.
I dunno, I never run one so I couldnl't tell ya. I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the turbo.

I was thinking that the intake air would be higher going into the turbo assembly without the box. That is probably the reason, along with the dirt protection that the "box" was developed.

I would be interested in seeing your set-up before I dump 45.00 on a NAPA. We can get that Cajun Food we were talking about!
Heck yeah Cajun sounds good! Maybe we can try for next week. I didn't have to remove a side from the airbox. I just modded it a bit to make the 6637 fit in there. But it is a pain to get in and out. I'll need to take some pics of it. I'll try to post a link here once I get them up. Shoot me an email and I'll send you some. powrstrkr@msn.com
