Question guage cluster

can you replace the guage cluster from the kind with idiot lights, to the kind with guages. as a plug and play swap or does it require wiring mods

as far as i know it would work but you need some sensors to make it work such as a temp sensor, oil sender etc. My truck had the gauge cluster but somebody swapped in an engine from a car and never took the old sensors off to make it work with the new engine. Guy at the parts store owned a truck like mine and he knew just the parts I needed.

I tried this conversion many years back and can tell you that plowpusher is correct, the whole harness under the dash needs to be changed to do ithe swap correctly.

For those that don't know.

The wiring harnesses are different.
The gauges harness is a 18 pin connector

The warning lights cluster is a 14 pin connector.

The Sending units are different.

The HIgh beam light is different

The only good way to is to swap the whole harness over.
