24V/12V accessory question

This is probably simple, but I'm a simpleton when it comes to electricity.

My 6.9L diesel engine ('86 F250) apparently has a 24V system, at least for part of the electrical system. The 2 batteries, I believe, are wired in series.

I have a 12V Quick-Air inflator which has alligator clips for attachment to the battery, to inflate tires.

How do I connect it to the new truck's battery(ies) to avoid blowing up the compressor in the Quick-Air? Can I just clip them to + & - posts on one battery, and get 12V?

Thanks in advance.

Wrong again. The batteries appear to be wired in parallel. I clipped the QuickAir to just one, and it worked fine.

Your batteries are in parallel for more capacity, but the same 12 volts. Diesels are hard to turn over, and the glow plugs use a lot of current, so they need the two batteries.
