loose change
About 5,000 miles ago I replaced my turbo. Used all new hardware during the switch. After about a week of listening to a ratlle that sounded like loose change in the engine compartment, it was time to find it.
First thing that came to mind was a pulley. So I removed the serp best and found all pulleys to be good. I needed to replicate the RPM that was creating the sound so I had the neighbor give it some go pedal. What caught my eye was a completely loose 13mm turbo bolt rattling in the center section of the turbo.
Now, with only two holding the turbo onto the pedestal and with only one doing the job, I figured i would have sprung an oil leak at the base ot the turbo. But nope, no oil leak. I re-torqued and everything is good to go now. BTW, I also retorqued several hundered miles after the turbo swap. Should I use a mild loc-tite if this happens again? I cant think of any damage off hand that may have may hace occured but if any of you guys have any input I'd appreciate it. Other than that truck is runing great! Got just under 10,000 miles with my Dp tuner and am wanting to send it back for a 40 tow tune as well as getting the FREE no start tune installed. (They werent offering it when I ordered mine!) That will put me at 40,60,80 econo, lope. Few things I will be doing this summer is taking my IC to a radiator recon shop to get dunked and pressure tested just becuase I have 170,000 miles on the ticker and I still have my CCV hooked up. It's a piece of mind thing
.
