I have a 76' with a 360 and a three speed manual tranny. My truck dies a couple times immediately after starting it no matter how warm it is outside. Is there anything I can do to make it less cold-blooded? Far as I know it's 100% stock. Also I noticed that just about the only place our fenders rust out is between the bracing and the fender down at the bottom near the cab. Is there anything you can do to prevent rust there? I am picking up two nice fenders and trying to figure out how to prevent rust. Can I cut off the bracing and smooth it out so mud can't get trapped? Maybe I can fill that area up with something water repellant. Or maybe keeping it clean is sufficient? Any help is greaty appreciated--Marvin
After you bump the pedal twice before cranking where is the butterfly? (closed, mid open, etc?)
As far as the rust goes put a good coat of paint on the fenders before you put them on. Then linseed oil the underbody, inside the doors, hood, etc once or twice a year. Been doing that for a long time and rust stays away pretty good
As far as the rust, the '77 - '79's had the black plastic inner fenders up front, which helped keep the fenders & cab mounts cleaner from mud and stuff thrown up from the tires and therefore less rusty. But thorough cleaning is still a good idea.
