I have a 1996 F150 and just got in the clifford headers I've been waiting for. I'm curious to know if anyone here has done this and what they have found to be the easiest way and any pointers. Tips, Tricks, links to pages, and whatnot would be greatly appreciated.
I put headmen headers on mine. Also mine is an 85. I had to take the intake completly out. and replace the Gasket, the kit came with one but it was crap so I had to buy a good one. Having a buddy there would be helpful. while installing put a few bolts on the bottom of the header to rest the headers on while you set the intake back into place. (label vaccum lines) and follow the torque seqence, I bent mine the first time and now have high temp silicone filling a gap, but it dosen't leak. Good luck. It was a good first mod for my truck.
There is one bolt that goes through an eye-hole in the front of the manifold closest to the radiator, but is blocked by the alternator and it's mount. To remove the mount and get the bolt I would have to remove pumps and ever more stuff and that just doesn't make sense. If anyone know how to get this bolt please tell me and save me a head of hair.
I think I used a size larger socket attached to a swival, I did it real slow to make sure it didn't slip. If i remember correctly they are all 9/16 and I used a 15mm for that(six point). i didn't try using one of those rachet wrenches maybe that would work. bye the way that is the part of the flange I bent in my install. so maybe removing that bracket would be best. Don't forget to go back and check to make sure that all the bolts are still tight after a few hundred miles.
Alrighty, I think I'm just going to take more off and hope it makes it easier. When I was relieving tension on the pulley to remove the serpentine belt my elbow flew down when it gave in and broke off the plastic part of the radiator that the hose connects too. Well I guess I'm saving money still by doing them myself... just less.
