Talking Another MOD Down

Well I finally worked up the courage to tear my turbo apart and install a new shiny Wicked Wheel. I left the turbo on the truck and all went pretty well except getting the clamp off of the down pipe was a PITA. Just had to let you all know how it went and thank you for all the info. Now I get to listen to that WW sing.

Goody!! Gotta love this thin Montana air and decent elevation to bring out the worst in the stock turbo.

It's funny to note that I could actually pinpoint the spot of Boulder Hill (south of Helena) when my turbo would start to surge (depending on ambient temp). It did it empty, loaded, stock, tuned, etc.. I guess it doesn't help that I always drive in the "surge zone" which for my truck is 65-72 MPH.

Some day I will have to go up there, I have mainly just run up Lost Trail pass and back down again but so far I have not even experienced surge since I bought this truck...maybe I do something different like drive slower with less throttle or something or maybe I just have a good turbo haha yeah right!

When I run empty it wasn't bad but pulling the TT loaded down with bikes I could get surge from a gopher hill.

I don't live there anymore. I used to live right at the base of the hill on the north side in Jefferson City. Man that hill sucked for me because I could never get enough speed (75 MPH) to keep it from surging before I got a good load on it. 60 MPH in 3rd all the way up. YUCK. And there's always some dude from Washington or Idaho that needs to pass you quick and cut you off so you never really get a chance to get any momentum.

Now I'm 3 hours east of there. Still have a nasty hill to climb every day, but I have about a 7-mile run at it....and a BALL BUSTER.

I hear you loud and clear. Just accelerating on a 2-lane to pass was terrible!!
