Aftermarket IN TANK fuel pumps for 92 F150

I am looking for a fuel pump that will give me more volume to the fuel rail to allow for more horsepower gains. I noticed that you can buy them to go in the tanks of the mustangs, but their doesnt seem to be anything for the dual tank F150's that use one pump in each tank. I was planning on redoing all of the fuel lines in the truck anyways because I have already had some trouble with the lines from the back tank leaking, and I also cant seem to keep the back tank from eating up fuel pumps. I would like some opinions, or of some knowledge on where to find a fuel pump that puts out more volume than stock and will go into this set up without to much dickin around. The truck is a 92 F150 with dual tanks. The rest of the mods are in the signature.

The fuel system is designed to run at around 40 psi. There is a vacuum controlled pressure regulator at the end of the fuel rail that sends excess fuel back to the tanks. Upping the pressure wont do a bit of good. The system will just take what it needs and recycle the rest.

A higher pressure pump or higher volume won't net higher HP numbers you need a retune of the PCM and new injectors.

There is a Carter 155lph pump that is very close to the stock pump dimensions that will fit with minor modifications, but most of the mustang pumps are physically too big to fit inside the resovoir that contains the pump and check valves on these trucks. For the record the Carter I had didn't last more than a couple years. That said, the stock pump wil support 300hp give or take, and your 5.0 is mainly stock so you don't really need a pump unless you have heads, a cam and bigger injectors on the shelf waiting to be installed.

Thanks very much for the input. Just out of curiousity, what are you running now for horsepower and torque numbers out of your 351? And would I need to install a couple of check valves for the return lines and a switching valve of somekind to switch between each tank with the carter pumps? I am trying to get all, well most, of my ducks in a row for my 408 stroker motor.

It's under 300HP with close to 400lbft TQ and I haven't had any problems with the stock pumps. I also have an adjustable FPR as well but haven't analyzed the system with a wide band O2 sensor so it is just adjusted to stock fuel pressure.

Yeah for that you'll need more pump for sure. The Carter pump fit inside the resovoir so nothing extra was needed, I bought a Holley or BBK pump after the Carter died but wasn't able to make it work. You may want to look at installing an external mounted pump and remove the intank pump/s, but leave the resovoir in place. It's probably the simplest solution, retains all the factory check valves and you only need 1 pump for a dual tank setup.

How easy does the pump come out of the housing? I have changed the pumps before but I didnt really pay attention to how they go together. I am assuming that new pump out of the box is the complete assembly with shutter valve etc?
