check out (51dueller) in this forum he has a frame swap article that will help you.
I`m putting a 51 F6 on a 79 Bronco frame and it`s work but it`s worth it
has anyone attempted this, or would know what i might be getting myself into?
thanks in advance!
I think it is a good decision for several reasons. Your frame is going to be a lot stronger with less flex and with plenty of aftermarket support. The wider tract width of the newer frames along with the higher suspensions and taller frame rails are a benefit in 4-wheel drive. Needless to say you're getting yourself into a lot of work and will need plenty of room and time to complete the project.
The main problem you will be facing is that the 80-96 frames are 3 1/2" wider than stock. You will have to do heavy cutting to your 52 cab to make it fit and will have to go custom body mounts for everything. The earlier frames are a much better choice IMO.
The only reason this swap if possible is because your truck is a 1 ton otherwise a F-1 box wouldn't clear the spring hangers plus you'd have driveshaft angle problems.
I wish you luck! There has been much talk about frame swaps but there are currently only about 5 of us that have completed it. There isn't to many success stories.
