I have a 2003 6.0 with 125,000 miles. Noticed it started surging while driving and while in park or stopped at a stoplight the rpm's would rise from 500 to 1000. It would also drop below 500 and almost die, it does this whether the egr is unplugged or plugged in. I read that the ebp sensor is prone to failing and replaced it, but it's still surging. Anyone have any ideas?
i was having the same problem, mine was a harness that they had to rebuild, i'm not sure which one but this was almost a year ago and i haven't had any problems since
I am having the same exact problem. Of course my dealer will claim I am driving it like a girl or some other ridiculous thing. It goes into the shop on Tuesday. It is an 04 with 64,000 miles. Any suggestions on what I should tell them?
Geez, from what I've read there are several sensors that could cause the condition. I was kinda hoping mrxlh or blackhat would jump in here and give us some ideas.
I am with BowTieHatr on this one, and you guys realize the BowTieHatr is a Ford 6.0 Tech and has seen more of these failures than either myself or mrxlh combined. I would stongly recommend you heed his advice. But remember without the truck in hand and diagnostics performed, an absolute diagnosis given over a computer on the internet is difficult.
Take your truck in and let the 6.0 tech do there job and get your truck running properly
Ahh....I've learned something new AGAIN. Thanks blackhat...I didn't know he was a tech!
Thanks for all the info BowTieHtar!

There acutally is a list of 6.0 diesel techs that are FTE members, thanks to kw5413, it was compiled about 9 months ago and is now part of the 6.0 Tech folder. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/52...ml#post3998872
there is so little room under the turbo, there is just enough for tools for replacement. i hate to tell you but scan tools are the only way to tell. now you just have to find a place with a knowledgeable tech behind it.
