I have a 95 Flareside with a 5.0.I'vebeen pretty hard on the skinny pedal and now I'm getting a tapping....I'm gonna throw some new heads on it eventually but I just wanna know......It's mostly on the right side of the motor and it is pretty prominant......is this caused by collapsed lifter or stuck valves or broken valve springs or what?Just buggin me and I really wanna know. Thanks ahead.....
My grandpas buick did this and although it is usually a valvetrain component, he had a power flush done on the oil and it corrected his ticking. Usually sludge gets stuck up there and causes the noise.
I had the same thing with my E350 5.8L, after I got it pretty warm the noise started.
I talked to a friend that is a big ford guy and he suggested that I add a quart of ATF in the oil and run it for 100 miles or so, (making sure I drained a quart out first) and then change the oil. I took a little extra precaution and installed a oil cooler with a shorter mopar filter. the noise has not come back yet
Usually does it when it's warmed up.....I've dumped a half of quart of atf into it but not a whole. It's got 113,000 miles on it...way up from the 80,000 I got it with earlier this year.My oil pressure is better than good.I had to replace the oil pan gasket a few months ago and went ahead and threw in a Melling Hig volume(heck, why not?)so it should be great.Ever tried changin the gasket without pullin the intake off???what a itch.I'm not a big fan of the right side(as you're looking at the motor from in front of the truck) oil fill anyways so I imagine there is probly some sludge in the other side...never een too greatful since the oil tries it's hardest to get up there it seems.
