What causes the romping??

The past couple of days, when I start it the first time in the morning, it goes romp-romp-romp..... I don't know how long it would do that for 'cause I give it bit a of pedal and it goes away. There might be some contributing factors to this condition, and they are
1- running B100
2- my hp xover line has a very small leak at the o-ring
3- I gotta swap out the leaky o-rings on my filter bowl drain

Any ideas?

My early 99 DRW has done the romp thing since new.. Two years ago i switch from Delo 400 to Shell Rottela Synthetic 5w-40 and the engine has not romp once since.. Your oil is not supplying your injectors properly.. I use synthetic year round.. Yes, it more money but is better for your engine and especially your turbo.. I will never go back to dino..

in-tank mods and changing to synthetic oil were the two most dramatic differences in my trucks smooth start-up and purring idle, even in winter. Definitely get that cross-over leak fixed.

I've been debating over switching to synthetic- a good portion of the posts I've read on dyno vs. syn point to using dyno??? I am almost thinking it's the leaky xover pipe loosing oil after shut down or something which lowers the injector pressure till the rails fill up again- just a guess. What about the "synthetic causes leaks" fear??

I don't know what about the synthetic tends to increase any already present leak. I had 65,000+ before the switch and my truck loved it.

I don't think it is the oil...your climate is too warm to give romps running 15-40W dino. If it was the oil, it would have been much worse over the winter (even though you don't really have winter where you are ).

I would not fear the "synthetic causes leaks". I switch to synthetic 5-40W in the fall (because we have real winter here and 5-40 syn stops the romps from lack of cold temperature pour point of 15-40 dino) and back to 15-40 dino in the summer...never a leak (knock on wood).

As far as romping only in cold weather, mine did it after sitting in my heated garage overnite until i switched to Shell synthetic. And as far as additional leaks are concerned, i really have not expenienced any in the last two years.. If you are a guy that does not like to wait for the engine exhaust to cool abit before shutting down, the synthetic route is the one to take.. saves your turbo..

Ford has never pinned down one cause for the romps in warm weather it seems to be between 3 things usually

1. Biased ICP sensor
2. Oil Pressure (could be tied to #1 or oil weight or HPOP health)
3. Fuel Pressure.

Roger that- I am wondering when I'm gonna have to start changing sensors- I only changed the CPS by mistake (ran out of fuel!!) so I'm guessing that maybe it's time to start collecting various sensors.....

I've been trying to convince myself of the same thing. I hate to buy spares on ebay, but they sure pay off when you need them.
