I was just wondering where the thermometer is located on our trucks for sensing the outside temperature?
I imagine it would have to be located in such a place that it wouldn't pick up engine heat or wind chill.
If your truck has been sitting awhile after running you will notice the temp is way up, reason picks up the radiator heat. Once running for a little while it does the correct readout. The tmep sensor not only provides an out to the outside temp guage, but also interfaces to the AC system.

Yes, I have noticed the high temperature reading. In fact yesterday and today we're getting extremely warm weather at over the 100 degree mark with humidex. In Celsius my gauge was reading 43 degrees when I got in the truck, although the truck had been sitting for 10 hours. I' attribute this to the fact that the truck is black and I can only imagine what the temp must be under hood sitting in the hot sun. I figured that this 43 degrees must have been what the temp was under the hood sitting still. Once I started moving, the gauge went directly down to 37 degrees. It matched what the signboard on the side of the highway stated.
Wind chill is a factor of how quickly something cools down to ambient temperature, so the sensor would not be affected. The more wind, the more accurate your sensor will be. It will pick up engine heat, but only when parked, just starting out, or driving real slow.
