my front passenger side hub is slinging grease on the wheels. this is my first 4x4 truck, so im some what unfamiliar with the locking hub assembly, but im pretty sure the surface of my wheels dont need to be greased, and that grease is more than likely supposed to stay in the hub where it can keep the bearings lubricated. is there a seal that i can change, while repacking the bearings of course.
truck is a 88 f250 diesel, 4x4 5 speed, manual transfer case, manual locking hubs.
I'm not exactly sure where that grease could be coming from. If there is enough to really come spurting out and cover your wheel then it sounds like there is too much in there in the first place. I know there isn't THAT much grease packed into the bearings. Do you not have the metal cylinder that goes around your hub?
I think he means it's coming out from the edge of the lockout hub. My passenger side did this slightly after I relubricated my hubs. You could try a new o-ring for the hub if you can find one.
