Prime New Oil Pump?

This is not a rebuild, I'm only replacing oil pump because it has 186,000 miles on it & I had to take it out to replace bad gasket on oil pan. When replacing the oil pump does it have to be primed by taking out the distributor?
Some people say yes some say no. What's the correct way?

did you run some oil thrugh it before installing it?

I like to put a little 90 wt in the new pump first then it will pick up oil as quick as after a oil change with out priming.

Haven't installed it yet. I was told they come pre lubed from the factory & it would pick up on it's on. Since the motor already has had oil in it, the short time for it it pick up would not damage the engine. Do you agree?

yes but I never trust them I would pump a little 90 in there to be sure

Bruce, you sound like you don't trust those people in the factory!!

I agree with you, I'll put in some 90. I worked in a factory for 11 years making the S-10 frame, I know what goes on.
