Chips and Manual Transmissions
Chips and Manual Transmissions
I have heard alot about performance chips really making the biggest difference in the way an automatic transmission shifts. Does anyone own a truck with a manual transmission and chip installed? What improvements have you noticed i.e faster accelleration, more torque, improved MPG?
Chips and Manual Transmissions
I'm a bit late seeing this question but here goes: I had a Superchips chip in my 97 4x4 SC 5speed V8. I also added a Flowmaster cat-back and a K&N air filter all before adding the chip. No improvement with K&N, a little improvement w/muffler and HUGE improvement with the chip. Really woke up that little V8. Better mpg, better take-offs, shifting points changed but once I got used to them, it was no problem. The truck would get up and get moving faster than before. Well before chip it drove like a slow moving turtle. After chip, the truck was a real pleasure to drive. Down side to chip: must use premium gas but I figured it was worth all that extra performance I was getting. And the worst problem it caused for me was this extreamly bad case of lead-footitist!! I've now got a different truck, a 6 speed manual Diesel. After about 500miles, I added the standard Superchips chip to it. This gives 50hp/100torque. I could tell the truck had a little more get-up to it but the main thing this chip does is improve fuel milage when towing. Superchips also has more impressive chips for the diesel but I figured the standard would do just fine for my needs. The superchip also removes your speed limiter and ups your rev limiter. Hope that helps some.
