I don't know much about chips, so I'm trying to educate myself to see if it might help me. I just bought a used 1997 E350 V10 cargo van to tow a travel trailer (about 7500 lbs).
I'm a pretty conservative driver, and on the couple of trips I've done I got about 9 mpg (mostly flat with some hills). I didn't really have any problems, and it actually towed quite smoothly.
What would a chip do for me? I am probably OK for power (although one can never have too much!) but will a chip help with gas mileage too? With the price of premium gas nowadays, it's seems to be a tradeoff (financially) of getting better mileage but having to pay for premium gas with some of the chips.
I know there are several brands, so any suggestions as to pros/cons of what might be appropriate for me would really be appreciated.
I've got a 1998 E350 Club wagon with the V10. I pull an 8500 lb. camper with 8 kids and all their gear, the van is fully loaded too. I put the Superchip brand of aftermarket chip in my van. I doubt if I would have had any power problems before the chip, but if for nothing else, get it for the better shifting. The gas mileage would probably not be much better. The current gas prices are definitely an issue though. The chip cost about $300 and was very easy to install. I just like knowing I'm getting more out of my V10 than the guy who doesn't have a Superchip. Hope this helps some.
