....whew.... Just askin'!! I was thinking about RP a while back, but I kind of like the 5W-40 weight. Truck seems to like it better.

The only place I saw it had it only in quarts and it was pricey (the $7/quart I mentioned). Saw that and never looked at the weights, so I thought I'd ask someone that might know.

I'm alway open to other options -- no emotional attachment to Rotella syn, it's just convenient and cost effective....

Alright....Sorry, Iz......It was the end of a long day for me and I felt I was under cross-examination....(haha)......No hard feelings.......

But....Question for amiller93....Why 5W-40 for synthetic?........As Iz pointed out, didn't see any offered in the RP longrider site.......

I have an 01 F-250 with a 110K on the ticker thanks in advance guys!

Just telling you same story as most others here:
I started doing my own oil changes right after I bought my 02 F-350 PowerStroke diesel truck had 79K on it, now has 115K.
I was buying Shell Rotella T 15W-40 oil and Motorcraft filter, cost $50
I now run Shell Rotella T synthetic 5W-40 and filter and spend $75 with filter.
I was changining it every 3K, now every 5-6K
I run the BLACKSTONE oil sample tests every oil change, with great results

I use what ever Jiffy Lube puts in it... Rottela, delo... pensoil... what ever they put in at that Jiffy lube is what goes in it... Runs the same no matter what oil is in it, so long as its diesel rated.

I believe that's because most of the synthetics offered only are available in the 5-40. By their nature, they flow easier and will typically run a 5W for the low number. But, once they're warmed up it performs the same (40W) as the 15-40 does. However, some companies, such as RP, may have a synthetic that's rated at 15-40. It will function just fine.

Well guys I think I will go with the Syn Rotella and get me a 6637 and an oil filter off fleet filters this weekend. Thanks for all your help I love FTE, out of all the forums I have been on I've never had one with such a great and friendly brotherhood.
