I have a 390 2barrell and my truck stalls out randomly. I'm racking my brain trying to figure it out. It doesnt happen that often maybe once every three or four times I drive it and when it does it starts right back up?? But i'll start it. It'll warm up and then thirty minutes later i'll be sitting at a redlight and my engine stalls out?? Could the idle be set to low? Is this a common thing? Maybe a vaccum leak??
Electronic ignition module can do that if going out on ya.
Recommend junkyard replacement to test.
Make sure you get the same Duraspark module.
Some go by grommet color; I have just gone by number of wires coming out of the two groups of wire, like 4 and 2. Has always worked for me.

Autoparts stores can test your existing module, which is prolly why your truck is stalling. The position and mounting of the module causes them to overheat. When that happens, truck dies. When module cools down, truck will re-start. Sooner or later, the module will burn out and truck won't restart. Modules are year specific. Modules have a colored plastic square where the wires feed from. You didn't list the year, but your profile sez 1976, so that's what I'm going by. When you replace the module also replace the stator (pickup coil) in the dizzy. When you mount the new module, space it away from the fender apron by adding a few washers...to allow for better airflow. NOTE: Use Motorcraft Parts ONLY. The modules sold by some autoparts stores are either rebuilts, or made in China.

Sounds good. I actually just replaced the ignition module about a year ago. But I didnt do it myself so I can't tell you where it came from or anything like that. All I know is it's silver. lol I'll head up to the local parts store and get them to check it out for me. It shouldn't be any problem since they pretty much know me by name now. : )
