Rough running van
My father in law suggested a clogged catylytic converter or oxygen sensor or some other emissions problem.
Any ideas? I'll probably take it in to the dealer, but is it feasible for me to buy a code reader and fix the problem myself? Also, if I need to buy a code reader, is there one that covers all Ford trucks? (I have the E-250 already mentioned, a '06 E-350 diesel, and a '89 F-250 gas)
Thanks,
Jim
Are there certain years to look for or avoid in looking for used vans? I'd prefer a one ton, but a heavy 3/4 will work with a v-8 or the 7.3 diesel. Are the transmissions the same for the v-8 and diesel vans during those years?
Any items of concern to be aware of? Right now I'm only getting about 10.5 mpg, and althought fuel economy is not a big concern with a big rig like this, I'd think the 5.4 v-8 would maybe get the same or better mpg and not have to work so hard? The v-6 has a hard time holding 55 mph, and passing someone is unthinkable for the most part.
I do have a '06 E350 diesel and love it, so it'd be cool to find a 7.3 diesel, but usually they have tons of miles on them and I'm not sure of the transmissions' durability for those years.
Any help will be appreciated,
Thanks,
Jim
