Well, it's a new record.......for me. I just got back from a trip to Eagle River, WI, maybe 230 miles one way from my house. On the way up, I stopped for fuel and was shocked when the milage calculated to over 20 mpg. The trip was mostly 65 mph with maybe 50 miles at 75 mph. I was not trying to get the best economy possible, I mean there were a couple of full throttle passes in there and I did not try to keep it under 2000rpm when accelerating. This truck is not new to me, I bought it brand new in Oct of '01 and the best I have ever seen was 18 mpg. I added the 203* stat and 6637 filter not to long ago, this is the only thing different in the last 5+ years. I would say that one or both of these things are responsible. Btw, I thought it might be a fluke, so I checked the tank on the way home and I was even more freaked when I hand calculated it to 21.5mpg.
I've had several different air filters, but never noticed a difference in fuel economy.
I just recently put in a new waterpump with the 203* thermostat, and am noticing a significant increase in economy as well.
I just wish I had put in the 203* 150,000 miles ago.

I here ya. I needed to fix my leaking stat housing, so I figured I might as well put the stat in as well. Glad I did, I hope I keep seeing these mpg numbers. Looks like my E-350 will be next.
How dose the 203 thermostat give you better mpg? Taking my 5th wheel to on a trip about 1200 miles one way. thermostat cant be that much money or that hard to replace. if i can pick up a 1/2 a mile it would save a buck or two
what do ya think

sounds like a good idea. maybe its worth a shot. gotta be cheaper than the blue cps i was suckered into. i finally traded it off (it was riding as a spare) for the new gray one.

You may not see the benefit pulling a trailer where the engine is hotter anyway. With the stock thermostat my engine ran consistently right around 180* empty (not pulling a trailer)regardless of the ambient temperature. With the 203* the gauge sets at just above 200*. Apparently, my engine is more fuel efficient at the higher temperature.
We will see what my mileage unfolds. The wierd part is that i didnt replace anything for mileage as it just needed replacing. The ebps replacement is showing better mileage, so we will see what the 203 comes up with.
I want to be clear that I am not claiming that any particular part is what is responsible for my fuel economy. I have never takin this particular route before I changed the stat, so I don't know exactly what my mpg would be stock. What I do know is I have never got this kind of mileage before. I changed the stat because I was in there replacing the stat housing anyway, so I figured why not. FYI, my truck only has 45,000 miles on it, so I doubt I have any of the mileage robbing problems some of you may have. My work truck is a 03 E350 PSD, and lately the best I get out of that is 15 or 16 mpg. The van weighs about the same as my truck (around 8,000#s), but it has 125,000 miles on it. My advice would be to change the thermostat if you want, but
I don't know if I would bank on huge mileage gains.
