At some point we trade rides. For guys like me that have sunk, well, too much into what we have, whats it worth? And who do you sell it to?
I think the answer is you're on your own and you get blue book unless you find someone who "knows" what you have and appreciates that. Is there a different answer?

That's the thing with mods. 99.99% of the time they are only of value to you, the one who put them in.
So the only investement value that you can attach to that sort of thing is personal satisfaction.
Well put Dan. It also makes a huge difference when someone test drives something. On the one hand it runs great. On the other, has it been beat to death? So I know all of my mod investment returns are purely selfish, for my enjoyment.
