Another electrical problem

So I installed a new voltage regulator and alternator and when I am driving the charge meter is in the fully charging position (at the right end of the meter). Is this normal? I thought that the voltage regulator prevents overcharging. Also, there must be a small drain on the batteries when the ignition is off because my batteries are dead after 2 days of sitting.

Still have the old regulator? I would swap it out and see what happens.

Well I thought to my self okay, I'll put the old one back in to confirm that it still pegs out the charge meter. Sure enough the charge meter DID NOT GET PEGGED but went to the 1/4 past hlafway mark and flickered there which is what I assume a voltage regulator should do. Not only that but the draw on the batteries is now reduced to a very small glow that pulses every 5 sec (which is probably the radio and clock). So now I will go for a celebratory ride. I guess I don't hold the guys at Kragen responsible but the Neihoff jerks should get their electronics right!!!!!

A lot of money is wasted trying to repair problems reading the factory gauges. I hope you have it fixed, but if it still gives you trouble, you need to get a voltmeter and read the battery voltage to see what's going on.

I was planning to do that tomorrow when my buddy lets me borrow his fluke. I seem to go through the cheap multimeters quickly. I have the chilton manual which explains how to do the load and no load tests. Again I have found this forum invaluable!
