I have a 2003 F250 PSD And am getting ready to install a switch for the high idle feature, and looking at mounting it in the dash. I have a oval plug in the dash, on the right side of the column, would be were the up-fitter switches are on the newer trucks, Anyone know what would have went in that location and have any ideals of a possible factory or look-a-like that would fit in this location?
I believe that is where the adjustable pedal switch went on the trucks that came with them. As far as finding a switch that will fit it, I highly doubt that.
Here are the switches that I added to my 99 F250. They turned out really well, and looked factory. Just drilled a 3/4" hole with a spade wood bit and put them in. I got them at AutoZone and the green matched the dash lights well.

Something along those lines is what I was thinking if I couldn't find something to fit the plug, I even thought about a small one mounted in the knock out in case I ever wanted to remove it just install a new knock out.
just buy the pedal adjustment switch. It has a center position with a spring return from the upper and lower position. There are several contacts in the switch. If you need a rocker switch, it will work well. It does cost about $25 and will have the picture of a foot on a pedal. I use mine to lock / unlock the doors on my reading service body. John
I would like to use some type of Factory switch but doesn't it have to be a constant hot to activate the idle and not just a momentary like the switches stated above?
Yes Broncoman the switch will have to be either open or closed. The momentary switches they are talking about would not work for the high idle mod.
Yeah Redford I really liked the way they looked. I would have done it again in my new truck if the upfitter switches weren't available (still will if I need more than 4 switches). I had those 4 to control various lights, one on the drivers side of the steering wheel to enable/disable the key in ignition chime, and two by the radio opening to turn my rearview camera on and off, and to disable the safety feature on my in dash DVD player. I can't take total credit though, I got the idea from another member on here, but I don't remember who so I can't give them credit.
i have them the same place. i did them on my excursion a long time ago. mine aren't as good of an install though. pics in my gallery. 1 for fm modulator, 2 dvd override, 3 for 6" front hid lights.
OK I have a switch and all, but was wondering if I should add a indicator light for when the switch is on? I'm just afraid that if the wife or someone drives the truck and activates the idle and forgets to turn it off before they drive it that they could damage something?
I thought the high idle only works in park with the parking brake engaged, at least on the 05-up. Also, the switched I used had a small green LED in them that would light up when closed, maybe try to find one of them. The switches are only a dollar or two.
Well I went ahead and used a small paddle switch and LED that I had, put them in the switch knock out , that way if I need to remove them for service or just do away with them I can just replace the switch plank with a new one and no one would know anything had been done. Thanks everyone for the help.
