We have a 2005 Ford Motorhome with the V-10 engine and it only has 6000 miles on it left out yesterday from Waco, Texas on our way to New York to visit the family and the thing ran fine up until we got to Monroe, Louisiana and we had around 1/4 tank of gas left and it started hesitating real bad under acceleration going down the interstate. You could back off the throttle a touch and it would run fine but as soon as you got back in to the throttle it did it again. Stopped went to top off the tank and there was so much pressure/suction on the gas cap it wasn't even funny. Filled it back up and made it to Vicksburg,MS barely going 45mph. Stopped in to an Advanced Auto Parts and one of their guys put a diagnostic tester on it and the thing read where two of the plugs were not firing. What would cause this or could it be something else. We have not driven the thing since April when we went to the races. please if someone could help me as we are currently stuck in Vicksburg until Monday morning to hopefully try and get in to the Ford Dealership to see if they can get this straightened out for us. Thanks in advance and sorry if this post is in the wrong forum. Scott
it depends, are the 2 coils not firing next to each other. could be a wiring problem. may also want to check the fuel system. filter clogged? sorry. hope it works out for you. good luck..
Try changing gas caps. The vacuum on the gas tank suggests a fuel system problem. The engine is trying to die because the fuel pump can't move fuel against a vacuum. Perhaps during storage, something built a nest in a vent. Make sure the evaporative emissions equipment (i.e. the charcoal canister) is in good working order. You may be able to get away with leaving the gas cap off if you find yourself backed into a corner and MUST run. (I'm a little out of touch with OBD-II diagnostics, so I'm not sure if you'd get a check-engine light w/o the gas cap.)
