Ive been looking at getting a larger truck as a work horse to use between houses here in NYC and my upstate place and money isnt exactly at a premium. On Ebay Ive found two F150 trucks and was wondering if you guys could tell me what you think. I know y ou guys were a wealth of info when i had my F250 years ago and i have a 1999 Ranger which I bought new and Ive been on that forum for years with that truck. I dont remember my old screen name but trust me when i tell you Ive been on this site for over nine years on and off
So heres the Dilema:
Truck #1 a 150 2wd. Its got an automatic trans and the overdrive isnt working. It seems to be a bit hard to put in between gears( like to shift between park and drive or drive and reverse. The fluid is worn and the truck has sat since about 2004 the owner says. How much to rebuild the trans do you figure at a regular shop an what trans is in it.. the motor is a 302. I know my old truck had an AO4D or something if memory serves correct. In addition that truck seems to need a master cylinder which i figure should be about $100. Its got no pedal and there seems to be no visible fluid leak and the resivoir is full. the brake lite is on too. The truck is listed for $675 with a buy it now for like $875 and there were no offers on the first listing . In addition the tailpipe is seperated from the exhaust, the AC blows hot, and the front fuel pump doesnt work . The body does have some dings and dents but its passable. Im thinking offering about $3-400 if i decide to go this route
Truck #2 the truck suppousedly runs good and is a five speed with 4wd. i havent travelled out to see it yet. The owner is claiming a crack between the cab and bed that needs welding. Has anyone heard of this kind of crack before? Im assuming that plates could be welded on either side of the crack and the truck would be as good as new,IS this one of those things thats typical on this kind of truck??I know i have friends who have blazers and the 4wd always cracks by the steering box. i asked the guy to send pics of the crack but have yet to get any This truck also needs a brake line which i figure has to cost me about $50 to fix and i should be able to do that myself
this truck starts at $400 and the buy it now is $800.. again no takers first time around i was thinking of offering the $400 should it check out as he states..
Opinions thoughts comments suggestion??
Thanks in advance
#2 sounds like the better deal to me, as long as that crack is fixable. Try and get a picture. It would be best to see the truck in person also.
What years are the trucks? As for the transmission in #1, it could be the AOD or 4R70W (depending on year) or the E4OD. The E4OD can be an expensive rebuild.
E40D is the one i had in my F 250.. i have my ranger 8 years now i kinda forget alot about the bigger trucks.. im trying to get pics of the crack in the frame im leaning towards #2 myself
