Anybody ever built a D60 from something say NOS, or something of the like, parts? Meaning purchacing every piece individually (housing, axle tubes, axles, etc), and would it be cheaper than buying one new/used?
You would be hard pressed to find one that is in pieces Most used ones are in one complete piece so your looking at between $1200 to $1500 for used maybe less maybe more. There is few places that are selling new 60's but your looking at anywhere $2500 and up. The used ones are going to be stock so once you buy one what are your plans for it. I'm sure someone in this forum will have better info than me on D60's and you are talking a front D60 i hope rear D60's are a dime a dozen.
I think he is asking if it cheaper to buy components for a D60 and assembling them rather than buying one assembled, either new or used.
Your best bet is to buy it used, assembled. New unassembled components are usually very pricey. Not to mention all the time that would be (for most people) wasted. Unless you are building up some hardcore buggy or bogger I would just go looking for a kingpin D60
It something for my '86 F-250, want to go with Boggers or even Terra tires in a 35" at some points in its existence. Not planning buggy or bogger but a bit of an off road rescue truck (lockers/ 1/4" thick custom built bumpers, PTOs at both ends, etc) as it were so I want to have the ability to get into a lot places w/o worry of breaking.
But yes, I was thinking about the idea of building one from scratch. Thanks guys.
