I have a 97 f-250 with a 5.4 liter 4 speed automatic. The engine is dead and I want to convert it over to run on propane for use on my private property, not on the public roads
So basically I am looking to go back to a carb/manifold so I can bolt on the propane. I dout I can use the same trans because I am assuming that its shifting done via the sensors and computer....no?
My question is what small block engines will fit in this engine compartment and what type of transmisson, shifting with either linkage or vacuum will I need to match the engine.
I am not a Ford guy but I do like them, I just need to here it from some of you Ford guys who know everything.
What is the best small block and trans I should get that is dependable?
Only the 4.6 and 5.4 V8's will directly bolt in. Everything else will need alot of custom work done to mount it. Then the electronics is another nightmare. Everything is contrled by the PCM, even the gauge cluster. Maybe try www.boss330racing.com. I believe that they have a carb intake set-up for the 5.4L.
